If you have ever wanted to know what goes on in a typical day in my life when I'm not shooting What Not To Wear it can be pretty crazy busy but always fun! I decided to have my assistant Ashleigh document one of my normal weekdays so people can have a sneak peak of how my life looks off camera. I'm currently winding down on my book tour for my new book Crazy Busy Beautiful but still have a lot of press to do. On this particular day I have a very early call time of 5:30 a.m. an ungodly hour to get up but have to be hair and makeup ready for a local New York morning television show and need time for primping. Yes I do my own makeup (many people ask) but I do have a great hairdresser that fixes up my tresses before I go on camera and so he arrives at my apartment just as early to blow dry and curl it up.
Arriving at the studio I meet with the producer in the green room to go over the segment outline and then I go onto the set with my publicist, the host and the producer to block the segment and set up the props we will be using. Then the show tapes live and the host and I have a great time talking about the book and demonstrating the fun tips as everything goes smoothly. Right after the filming I run off to meet with celebrity personal fitness trainer Joe Dowdell at his fabulous private gym Peak Performance in NYC. Joe along with nutritionist extraordinaire Dr. Brook Kalanick has just written a new book called Ultimate You and it's my new fitness and nutrition bible! I interview them both to learn about the extra beauty benefits you can get from exercise and eating right every day and will share this information with all my blog followers on www.dailymakeover.com (so check it out this week). I am an exercise fanatic and live a very healthy and active lifestyle so this is an important part to creating all over and long lasting beauty.
Since I am already at Peak Performance I change into my workout cloths and sweat through an hour of torture with my trainer the fabulously fit Lauren Godlberg aka L-Boogie. I see her about 5-6 days a week to keep my body strong and send her daily food journals so she can watch my diet closely. After training I have them whip me up a protein shake and we add my daily dose of Glowelle, an amazing age-defying antioxidant drink mix that keeps your skin glowing and gorgeous every day from the inside out. After leaving the gym I head off to my local CVS to check on my new display case for my makeup line Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy and while there I call into my "Natural Beauty Team" to discuss product placement on the shelves, stock levels and to see what is selling the best. Then it's back to the office for a quick shower and then computer time where I like to work from the couch rather then a desk. I write up the blog on the Ultimate You book, do a few beauty magazine interviews, answer some fan mail and then review a bevy of new products for an up and coming article. I then get to test out lab samples of a new secret bronzer I am currently working on for my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy line. It should be ready by the end of the year and it's awesome so keep an eye out!
Now I'm off and running again to a conference with my App team as I'm creating a new fabulous makeup App for the IPhone. We are in the middle of creating hundreds of specific looks that will be personalized for women so it's really intense work to make sure all the colors and looks are correct. When that is wrapped up it's home for a quick shower and change of clothes and then off yet again for a dinner and drinks with the executive producers of What Not To Wear to discuss season 8 of the show. Finally home, I collapse into bed with a hot cup of tea and a good book but keep a pen and notebook on my bedside table so I can write down any inspirational new ideas about products, looks, segments, books or lectures. The day may be long but for me it's easy really because I love what I do and that my friends is the secret to happiness!
